چکیده

Trejo, W. H. (Squibb Institute for Medical Research, New Brunswick, N.J.) and R. E. Bennett. Streptomyces species comprising the blue-spore series. J. Bacteriol. 85:676-690. 1963.-The objective of this study was to define and delimit the streptomycetes of the blue-spored (Viridochromogenes) series. The series, as defined in this study, includes 11 blue and blue-green species. The green-spored species were excluded on the basis of morphology as well as color. It was proposed that NRRL B-1511 be designated as the neotype strain of Streptomyces viridochromogenes (Krainsky) Waksman and Henrici, and that IMRU 3761 be designated as the neotype for Streptomyces cyaneus (Krassilnikov) Waksman. Evidence was presented to show that physiological criteria cannot be used to differentiate these organisms below the series level. The major characteristics of the Viridochromogenes series are blue to blue-green spores borne in spirals, and chromogenicity (melanin-positive). Reverse color and spore morphology provide a basis for separation below the series level.

Sequence-Based Differentiation of Strains in the Streptomyces cyaneus Species-Group

In an extensive numerical phenetic survey, a numberof blue, red and gray spored streptomycete strainswere grouped together as Streptomyces cyaneusspecies-group, a taxon which encompasses strainsknown to produce antitumor antibiotics, notably anthracyclines. In the present investigation these and relatedstreptomycetes were the subject of morphological and...

Streptomyces luridiscabiei sp. nov., Streptomyces puniciscabiei sp. nov. and Streptomyces niveiscabiei sp. nov., which cause potato common scab disease in Korea.

Three plant-pathogenic isolates of Streptomyces spp., isolated from potatoes with common scab disease lesions in Korea, are described as novel species. Morphological and physiological properties of these isolates were distinct from those of previously described Streptomyces species. Strain S63(T) has yellow-white, smooth, cylindrical spores that are borne in monoverticillus flexuous spore-chain...

Taxonomic Studies on the Streptomyces Species, Isolated as Causal Organisms of Potato Common Scab

Taxonomic studies were made on Streptomyces species, causal organisms of potato common scab, isolated from lesions of potato tubers and sugar beet roots in Japan. They were divided into two groups based on the spore chain morphology: spiral spore chain isolates (SI) group and rectiflexible spore chain isolates (RFI) one. Although the two groups did not significanlty differ each other in their p...

Electron microscopy of Streptomyces spore morphology and its role in species differentiation.

The widespread search for new antibioticproducing Streptomyces unleashed during the last two decades also brought with it the problems of their classification. In the early attempts at species differentiation excessive use was made of highly variable cultural and physiological properties as taxonomic criteria and too little attention was paid the more stable morphological characteristics. Howev...

In vitro antifungal activities of Actinomyces species isolated from soil samples against Trichophyton mentagrophytes

Background and Purpose: Cutaneous infections arise from a homogeneous group of keratinophilic fungi, known as dermatophytes. Since these pathogenic dermatophytes are eukaryotes in nature, use of chemical antifungal agents for treatment may affect the host tissue cells. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the antifungal activity of Actinomyces species against Trichophyton mentagrophytes (abbrevi...
